A Little Bit About Me.
My name is Mark Pike and I have lived in Dorset all my life. My main interests lie in the UK railway scene and all things to do with natural history and wildlife in the UK. This website has now been split apart from my wildlife interests and a new website for those images can be found here nature.mvp-photography.co.uk
Current railway images will be added to this site frequently until being filed under their respective headings at the end of each year. There is also a gallery of railway images from over 20 or 30 years ago that I will progressively scan and upload, but more of these will gradually be added when time permits.
My interest in railways started from a young age and has remained with me all my life. It really began in the late 1960’s during visits with my father to Poole station in Dorset, right at the end of steam on the Southern region. In the early 1970’s I remember visits to Exeter St Davids, mainly at that time to jot down the loco numbers, but also attempting to take pictures with a cheap old 135mm film camera! I subsequently went on to work 22 years on the railway in the Permanent Way department in the Brockenhurst/Bournemouth/Poole/Weymouth area from 1981-2003. During the years I have seen a lot of changes in the general railway scene in the UK and also the rapid rise of heritage railways. Understandably railway photography can often be all about the actual train and/or locomotive up the front, but by no means always, as some of my images will hopefully show?
It is an ever expanding site so why not come back from time to time and have a look around, you never know what you might come across!
